To mark the publication of Sex and Vanity

Kevin Kwan, the superstar author of the global bestselling phenomenon Crazy Rich Asians, returns with a glittering new romantic comedy about a young woman who finds herself torn between two men and cultures.

Join Kevin Kwan as he discusses what it was like to have Crazy Rich Asians adapted into one of the highest grossing rom coms in a decade and the first major Hollywood movie to feature an all-Asian cast in over a decade. The exclusive UK event will peer behind the curtain of the real lives of Crazy Rich Asians and  how Kevin’s own experiences living amongst them have inspired his bestselling series and his new, critically acclaimed novel Sex and Vanity.

On her very first morning on the jewel-like island of Capri, Lucie Churchill sets eyes on George Zao and she instantly can’t stand him. She can’t stand it when he gallantly offers to trade hotel rooms with her so that she can have a view of the Tyrrhenian Sea, she can’t stand that he knows more about Casa Malaparte than she does, and she really can’t stand it when he kisses her in the darkness of the ancient ruins of a Roman villa.

The daughter of an American-born Chinese mother and a blue-blooded New York father, Lucie has always sublimated the Asian side of herself, and she adamantly denies having feelings for George.

But several years later, when George unexpectedly appears in East Hampton, where Lucie is weekending with her new fiancé, Lucie finds herself drawn to him again. Soon, Lucie is spinning a web of deceit that involves her family, her fiancé and ultimately herself, as she tries to deny George entry into her world – and her heart.

Set in the summer playgrounds of jet-set billionaires, peppered with decadent food, extravagant fashion and salacious gossip, Sex and Vanity is a brilliantly funny comedy of manners. Called ‘delightful’ by Independent, ‘effervescent, grand cru escapism’ by Metro and ‘Your PERFECT SUMMER READ… the binary opposite of social distancing’ by the Daily Mail, it really is a glittering modern love story. Kevin will dive into the inspirations behind his lavish characters, glamorous parties and exotic locations and its loving homage to a much-loved classic – E.M. Forster’s A Room with a View.
